INTRODUCTION TO RPA: AUTOMATION IN ACTION RPA, or robotic process automation, is one of the most exciting, innovative areas for companies to improve their workflows. It's a is a key step in digital transformation. The technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we work by allowing employees more time to concentrate on complex issues rather than repetitive tasks. RPA, a proven technology, can automate almost any rule-based work process. Essentially, RPA imitates the actions of a human worker performing repetitive tasks — but RPA performs those tasks 24/7 and without sick days. Robotic process automation can be used in any country and any industry that has a repetitive process or business workflow on computer systems performed by humans; RPA is ideal for risk and insurance management and claim administration. A firm choosing RPA will implement digital or virtual workers called bots (short for robot) to work alongside their workforce; RPA will enhance rather than replace existing systems, including legacy applications. One bot is essentially an automated program tailored to perform a task based on an event such as processing an incoming email or answering a query via a chatbot; a bot "runner" then executes a work process (for example, confirming an address); the process is then repeated. A company can use a mix of digital and human workers. Ultimately, some two-thirds of "lower end" processes might be automated, leaving humans to concentrate on the one-third remaining "high end" functions. RPA can help management plan their budgets more effectively and help them produce a more efficient work environment while investing more in other tasks. It is a complex but accessible area, and specialist technology firms can work with companies to discuss their needs, implement and test systems, and offer support. * equivalent to 9-16% of the world's annual output, McKinsey consultants 2025 ESTIMATED WORTH BY $7-$14 TRILLION* G LOB A L R O BO T I CS A N D AU TO M A T I O N M ARK E T GL O B AL R O B OT I C S A ND A UT O M A T I O N M A R KE T
