10. Choice of Vendor
This paper has focused on the features to look for in today's systems. But one of the most
important considerations when purchasing an RMIS platform is the choice of vendor. While
there is a tendency to focus on the "bells and whistles" of a new system, it is critical to
understand the quality of the vendor you are planning to work with as well. After all, that
vendor will be your "partner" for the next 3, 5, 10 years or more, depending on the quality of the
system and the relationship.
"Knowing Thy Vendor" has never been more important. Here are some questions to consider
when researching RMIS vendors.
How many years has
the vendor been in
business?
Does the vendor
provide capabilities for
your specific industry
or needs?
What types of
customers does the
vendor work with?
Does the vendor have
demonstrated
expertise in risk,
technology and
insurance?
