Pinney, his team and his Finance colleagues use the module for these six key functions: » Quarterly Chargeback Reporting: The Finance team uses the module to assign a professional liability premium to each provider and allocate it to his or her local system. Known as quarterly chargeback, Finance uses RiskConsole to quickly, efficiently and easily generate reports that give every local system an accurate allocation figure for its providers. » Ta x F i l i n g s f o r I n d e p e n d e n t Contractors: BSHSI provides professional liability coverage to some independent contractors, and the Finance team uses RiskConsole to report on the valuation of the premiums, which it then includes on tax forms sent to the providers and to the Internal Revenue Service. » Producing Certificates Of Insurance: Risk managers at local BSHSI systems gather and submit to Pinney's team all of the information required to initiate coverage on newly hired physicians. "Rather than coming to me to generate a report," Pinney observes, "local risk managers can directly access the information into RiskConsole." » Verification of Coverage: When a physician leaves BSHSI, his or her new employer contacts the BSHSI Claims department to verify previous coverage. The Claims department now uses RiskConsole to look up coverage dates and generate verifications. » Electronic Document Management: Using RiskConsole's email-to-journal functionality, BSHSI now captures most physician records, including employment applications and contracts, and stores them electronically for ready access. » Insurance Letter Management: "Automating the generation, mailing and tracking of insurance letters sent to newly hired and terminated physicians has been a great benefit to us," Pinney states. "On a daily basis, we generate letters informing physicians that their coverage has either started or ended. This allows us to get the letters out much more quickly than we were able to do previously, which is good for the physicians and much more efficient for me and my team." eXpect more from your rmis When asked what other RiskConsole clients should know about developing their own custom modules, Pinney says, "First of all, don't assume that the standard modules offer the whole of what you can get out of RiskConsole. Working with the Aon eSolutions team was a very positive experience, and we've created a fairly unique module specific to one application for us that's worked out very well. In my experience, it's been really valuable to think carefully about our data requirements and then work with Aon eSolutions to design a product that works for our specific needs." Pinney expresses satisfaction with the results he's seen thus far from the physician management module in these three key areas: » Renewals and Submissions: "In terms of being able to gather the data, report the data out to our broker who can transmit it to our insurance markets, it's been a real plus and has made my job a lot easier," Pinney reports. » A l l o c a t i o n A c c u r a c y : " B e f o r e RiskConsole," says Pinney, "We used spreadsheets to identify the entities that the physicians were associated with, but there were inaccuracies with that. So, when we uploaded the spreadsheet into RiskConsole, I did a lot of work to correct misallocations. I feel confident now that the information is correct in our allocations." » Finance Efficiencies: "The physician management module has helped the Finance team with managing allocations as well as tax filings," says Pinney. "I'd say they're pleased with the results."
