analysis' form within 45 days of an incident. e analysis involves a thorough investigation of what happened and why. Action plans are developed to correct and prevent future injuries from occurring." "We use iVOS reports to ensure analysis forms are completed on time and attached to the claim via the sticky note feature. We also use iVOS to monitor and reduce lost time," said Toro. e iVOS work status screen tracks when injured employees are out from work, when they have work restrictions, and when modified duty is and isn't used. It provides employers with a clear snapshoot of their return-to-work programs, and the system auto- populates OSHA logs. "We no longer have to perform manual reporting and recordkeeping, which saves us time," she said. PATIENT SAFETY & EVENT REPORTING e nature of delivering complex, multi-faceted, and fast-paced medical services means that hospitals experience a high risk for patient safety issues. As a result, in recent years there's been a nationwide increase in professional liability costs. To address this challenge, CHW leverages iVOS to not only achieve greater efficiency in managing claims, but to drive incident reporting that improves patient safety and aims to reduce future HPL claims. Using the iVOS Event Management module, CHW employees report any and all incidents with even the potential to cause harm or impact patients. Hospital risk managers are notified when events are reported, so they can immediately respond. "Patient-centered care is always our goal," said Barbara Pelletreau, vice president of patient safety. "e iVOS system helps us to quickly identify opportunities to can make our care better and safer for our patients." With event reporting in place for the last three years, CHW receives 120,000 to 130,000 reports annually. "It's become an integral part of our culture of patient safety," said Pelletreau. PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS INTO THE FUTURE CHW has been ahead of the curve in fostering both employee and patient safety initiatives organization-wide. "We take patient safety seriously, and our employees know how much we value their work and their feedback," said Pelletreau. "Hospitals that implemented Executive WalkRounds and other management strategies improved their Safety Climate and patient satisfaction scores." iVOS has also enhanced claims workflow. "I have 25 staff members who use iVOS in the HPL program. It continues to be a valuable tool, which allows us to achieve greater efficiency in our claim operations and a higher level of productivity among staff. We've made progress toward achieving a more paperless process, and as we deal with a greater level of risk, iVOS provides the capabilities to analyze and reduce these exposures into the future," concluded Trippe. Ritza Vaughn on + 1 925 242 4604 or email ritza.vaughn@aon.com for more information » Executive Walkarounds ® . Hospital presidents circulate within various departments to discuss patient safety issues with frontline staff. "They use iVOS to track concerns and outcomes," said Pelletreau. "Resolution of issues is critical, as it proves that safety is a priority and builds a sense of trust among frontline staff that their feedback is valued and acted upon." » Just Culture. CHW hospitals have joined with other health systems in a nationwide program called "Just Culture," which strives to address reckless, unsafe behavior regardless of the patient outcome. This program uses an algorithm to assess an organization's response to an incident, looking at both the system's and the individual's accountability in the event. "There is a 'Just Culture' algorithm, which about half of our hospitals have adopted," said Pelletreau. "Using iVOS, we incorporated the algorithm into our RCA form, so it's embedded in our analysis." BARBARA PELLETREAU, VICE PRESIDENT OF PATIENT SAFETY 20 REDUCE INJURIES PERCENT INJURY RATE DOWN 1.51 PERCENT
