the Case for integration of safety management and risk management Safety is not only an obligation, but delivers significant quantifiable value to an organization. By integrating safety management into all aspects of a business, safety becomes a facet of every business decision across an enterprise. To serve their risk management needs on a daily basis, companies need a process in place to be able to: » Identify current and future risk and safety exposures » Communicate those exposures to the appropriate people » Enforce and execute compliance and best practices to mitigate risks » Evaluate the timeliness and effectiveness of the enforcement » Educate the organization on how to prevent re-occurrence of the exposure A well-integrated risk management platform has many benefits for an organization, including: » Reducing Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) » Reduction in claims, cost and risk » Increasing visibility and transparency » Reduced employment liability » Enhancement of the company brand ease of use and compliance One important reason that LTS chose SafetyLogic to help them manage their safety training is that it is easy for employees to access, for reports to be generated quickly and to keep up to date with the status of safety training. at means it also helps them understand and address their risks on an ongoing basis as well, Weiss says. "We not only looked for a product that would ensure we were complying with OSHA and other legislations for multijurisdictional areas across Canada and the U.S., but that gave us a span of topics we needed, whether it was aerial lift use, ladder usage or electrical safety," Weiss notes. "en, it had to be easy for employees to get on the system and do the courses, and finally easy for us to manage the data afterwards." Keeping records updated, especially in terms of status of courses completed, was another area of concern for LTS. Prior to using SafetyLogic, there was a lag in time while data from courses was input into a spreadsheet tracking system. "Employees like to see how they have done in the courses, too," Weiss says. "e system lets them keep up with their own progress and see their scores quickly." Weiss adds that the flexibility in enabling employees to take courses at their convenience in the different time zones where they are located is a particular benefit of automated training. Quality training and awareness "Being able to offer high-quality training is one of the most valuable returns on our investment in SafetyLogic," says Weiss. ere is a strong focus, for example, on driver safety courses, since LTS recognizes that "one of the highest risk moments for our employees is when they are in their vehicle." Keeping awareness high of driving risks through multiple driving course updates, Weiss says, helps target a particularly vulnerable area for the company and to protect employees that much better. "We've gotten quite a lot of very positive feedback about the courses," he added. easy to ramp up "e ability for us to say, yes, we are hiring more people and we can train them immediately with a high quality safety program—that's probably the single biggest benefit of SafetyLogic to my team," Weiss said.
