360º | Aon eSolutions 3 1 04 covering more than 20,000 square miles, san bernardino is the largest county in the united states, and it provides a vast array of services to residents. as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation, the county is home to 24 cities and more than 60 diverse communities that share a common vision: creating safe communities that residents are proud to call home. leveraging iVOS for Shared Vision san bernarDinO cOunty [ transcending from legacy to ivos ] "Our mission is to minimize losses to the county through a comprehensive risk management program," says Steve Robles, assistant director of risk management. "Due to the nature of county operations, we provide public services, such as law enforcement and firefighting. We utilize risk management techniques to ensure those services are delivered with the lowest possible risk. To do this more effectively, we turned to iVOS." e county, which is self-insured and self-administered, implemented iVOS in June 2008 to administer workers' compensation, general liability and first- party property claims. "Our previous system was in place for more than ten years," Robles says. "When we needed a report—for example, if we wanted to analyze claims that occurred at a certain location—we had to pay a consultant to pull that information out of the system. ese reports resulted in extra costs, and it took a month to receive the data. In iVOS, we found a modern system that provided ease of use and stable, predictable IT costs—as well as flexibility and interoperability." "A good example of reporting inefficiency occurred with our OSHA 300 log," notes LeAnna Williams, the county's risk control officer. "Due February 1, this annual report summarizes the previous year's workplace injuries by department. With the old system, we needed three people to start collecting information in December. With iVOS, it took one person less than a day to generate the report." [ leveraging browser-based benefits ] "We're highly protective of our data," Robles says. "By leveraging iVOS and its browser-based platform, we've configured user rights to ensure secure, authorized access. Previously, we had to copy and send documents to external consultants, or they had to review files onsite. is was a particularly time-consuming and cumbersome task for actuarial data. Now, we spoke with san bernardino county's steve robles, assistant director of risk management, and leanna williams, risk control officer, about their use of ivos claims administration to automate operations and integrate with other county systems. client focus check out more case studies at aon360.com
